VETERINARY COUNCIL ISSUES NOTICE TO UNIBEN OVER STANDARD VIOLATION

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria has formally announced the closure of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Benin in Edo State, citing the institution’s failure to meet the required standards for veterinary education. Dr. Aishatu Abubaka-Baju, President of the Council and Assistant Inspector General of Police, confirmed this decision.

In an interview with The PUNCH during the 60th Annual Congress of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association in Jos, Plateau State, Dr. Abubaka-Baju stated, “We have just returned from the University of Benin, along with representatives from other universities. We have shut down the Veterinary Medicine program due to non-compliance, meaning it can no longer admit students.

Conversely, the University of Abuja has received interim accreditation, and the council plans to reassess its status in two years.
