University of Jos (UNIJOS) has unveiled plans to establish a School of Business Studies.

In a groundbreaking move aimed at fostering innovation and promoting entrepreneurship, the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has unveiled plans to establish a School of Business Studies. This initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and addressing the evolving demands of the business world.
The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya, during the commissioning of advanced digital teaching equipment at the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences. Professor Ishaya emphasized the significance of digital transformation in education, describing the initiative as a vital step toward positioning UNIJOS as a hub for technological and academic innovation.
A Vision for Growth and Excellence
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the proposed School of Business Studies will offer the department greater autonomy, enabling it to expand its programs, introduce specialized courses, and enhance the quality of education. The focus areas will include entrepreneurship, digital business, and sustainable business practices—fields that align with global trends and industry requirements.
“This proposal is part of a larger strategy to enhance our academic offerings and improve our global competitiveness,” Professor Ishaya stated. He also commended the collaborative efforts of staff, students, and partners in acquiring state-of-the-art digital tools to transform learning.
A Model for Innovation
Professor Teresa Nmadu, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, lauded the initiative, describing it as a milestone for business education in Nigeria. Represented by Professor Meshach Goyit, she highlighted how the integration of cutting-edge technology will prepare students to thrive in a digital-first economy.
Dr. Linus Vem, Head of the Department of Business Administration, expressed optimism about the department’s future. “We are not just teaching business concepts; we are embedding technology into every facet of education to ensure our students are ready for the challenges of a digital economy,” he said.
Empowering the Next Generation of Business Leaders
The President of the National Universities Association of Management Business Students (NUAMBS), Daniel Achuwe, described the initiative as transformative. He expressed confidence that the new tools will make learning more interactive and engaging, equipping students with the skills to excel in the competitive business landscape.
Technological Advancements for Modern Learning
The commissioned equipment includes an electronic podium for live streaming lectures, an interactive smart board for dynamic presentations, and a smart TV for remote collaboration. These tools aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring students are well-prepared for real-world challenges.
With the establishment of the School of Business Studies, UNIJOS is set to redefine business education by combining academic rigor with technological innovation. This development not only reflects the university’s forward-thinking vision but also reinforces its role as a leader in producing globally competitive graduates.
