Bayero University Kano Hosts NUC Teams for Programme Accreditation
Bayero University, Kano (BUK), welcomed five teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Monday, December 9, 2024, to assess and accredit nine academic programmes. This significant exercise is part of the third and final phase of the university’s ongoing accreditation process aimed at maintaining academic excellence and compliance with national and global standards.

The programmes under evaluation include:
– BSc Chemistry
– BSc Biology
– BSc Physics
– BSc Mathematics
– BSc Computer Engineering
– BSc Forensic Science
– Masters in Entrepreneurship
– Early Childhood Education
– Primary Education
Previous Accreditation Milestones:
This phase follows the successful accreditation of 30 programmes during the first and second phases, conducted between November 18 and 30, 2024. The process underscores BUK’s commitment to delivering quality education and fostering research development.
Institutional Perspectives:
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Sani Muhammad Gumel, emphasized the importance of accreditation as a peer-review mechanism. He noted that the process not only ensures compliance with academic standards but also enhances the quality of teaching and research at the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the NUC teams, Professor Bashir Maina reiterated their mission to evaluate the programmes rigorously and provide actionable recommendations in line with global best practices.
Final Phase and Outcome:
The Director of Academic Planning, Professor Yusuf Garba, revealed that this phase includes the assessment of a total of 22 programmes. The NUC teams are expected to compile their findings and submit a comprehensive report to the Vice-Chancellor by the end of the week.
