EFCC Invites Suspended Edo LG Chairmen for Interrogation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the suspended chairmen of the 18 local governments in Edo State for interrogation. This development comes after the state House of Assembly suspended the chairmen and vice chairmen for alleged insubordination and misconduct.
The suspension was a result of a resolution passed by the House, which accused the chairmen of refusing to appear before the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The EFCC’s Director of Investigation, Abdulkarim Chukkol, sent a letter to the Secretary to the State Government, requesting the presence of the suspended chairmen. The letter stated that the chairmen are required to report to the EFCC office with comprehensive documentation relating to staff strength and payroll, among other things.
The invitation is pursuant to Section 38(1);(2) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004. The suspended chairmen are expected to appear before the EFCC today Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20.
