FUTMINNA Receives NUC Accreditation Teams’ Preliminary Reports

The National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Teams have submitted their preliminary findings to the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta. The submission was made during exit meetings held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Academic Publishing Centre, Main Campus.
The evaluation covered various academic programs, including Project Management Technology, Logistics and Transport Technology, Educational Technology, Chemical Engineering, Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fishery Technology (WAFT), Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, Horticulture, Animal Production, Crop Production, and Soil Science and Land Management.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Engr. Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the accreditation teams for their meticulous assessment. He acknowledged that their observations and recommendations would play a vital role in improving the institution’s academic programs. Prof. Kuta reiterated FUTMINNA’s commitment to implementing these recommendations to enhance the university’s facilities and programs, catering to its growing student population.
OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS :
The team leaders highlighted the adequacy of FUTMINNA’s admission requirements, course content, and curriculum while emphasizing areas that require improvement:
1. Staffing: Increase the number of junior academic staff (Lecturer I and below) to be mentored by senior staff.
2. Training: Conduct regular staff training and workshops to enhance professional development.
3. Funding: mprove funding for various programs to boost academic output.
4. Student Support: Assign a consistent academic adviser to students throughout their studies to ensure effective progress monitoring.
