NYSC Applauds Sokoto Governor Aliyu for Increasing Corps Allowances

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has applauded the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, for approving an upward review of allowances for corps members serving in the state.

The commendation was made by the Sokoto State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, during the swearing-in ceremony of 2,100 corps members under the 2024 Batch C Stream 2 orientation exercise, held in Wamakko Local Government Area.

Yakubu-Yaro described camp activities as essential for preparing corps members for future challenges, emphasizing the importance of physical and mental training, particularly in skill acquisition programs. He noted that the increased allowances would motivate corps members to remain dedicated and urged the state government to invest in improving facilities at the orientation camp.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme. He acknowledged the scheme’s role in promoting national integration and contributing to the social, cultural, and physical development of the nation.

Governor Aliyu pledged to prioritize the security and welfare of corps members posted across the state, ensuring their safety and encouraging them to act as agents of societal change. He urged them to embrace discipline, foster unity, and integrate with their host communities.

The Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Sa’idu Sifawa, represented by Chief Magistrate Faruk Umar, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members, officially marking the commencement of the orientation exercise.
