The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is mourning the sudden passing of Professor Jimoh Olanipekun, who collapsed during a departmental meeting and was later pronounced dead.
According to a statement from the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the professor showed signs of distress during the meeting and was immediately taken to the university’s medical center. Following an initial medical assessment, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was confirmed dead.
Expressing shock over the incident, OAU Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to the late professor’s family. He described Olanipekun as a brilliant scholar who made a lasting impact in his field. He encouraged the family to find comfort in the professor’s contributions to academia and society.
The university extended its sympathies to his family, the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, and the entire OAU community, praying for the strength to bear the loss.
