JAMB Debunks Viral Rescheduling Payment Demand

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised an alarm over fraudulent activities involving a fake account used to extort money from candidates under the pretense of rescheduling the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to a statement released on Thursday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, scammers are requesting N15,700 from unsuspecting candidates who missed their UTME. The fraudulent request is linked to an account number—8520641017 with Sterling Bank—bearing the name “Copyrightwriter Personal J Rescheduling Flw.”
“We wish to alert the public to a deceitful scheme targeting candidates who could not sit for the UTME. Fraudsters are requesting payments under false pretenses to help reschedule the examination,” Benjamin stated.
He emphasized that these individuals are not affiliated with JAMB or any government-recognized body. He described the operation as a deliberate attempt to exploit and mislead candidates.
“This is a clear scam. The fake account being circulated is not connected to JAMB in any way, and we urge Sterling Bank to act swiftly against this illegal activity,” he added.
Dr. Benjamin further revealed that the case has been reported to law enforcement agencies, and investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He clarified that JAMB does not impose any additional fees once candidates have completed their registration. The board also does not reschedule exams for candidates who miss their tests for reasons beyond JAMB’s responsibility.
“However, candidates who could not write the exam due to biometric issues are currently under review. Those cleared of discrepancies will be invited to retake the exam at no extra cost,” the statement concluded.
Candidates and parents are advised to stay alert and report any suspicious requests or payments to JAMB or security agencies immediately.
