Ekiti Varsity VC Laments Underfunding Ahead of Maiden Convocation

The Vice Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), Prof. Olufemi Adeoluwa, has raised concerns over inadequate funding, stating that the university’s N275 million monthly subvention from the Ekiti State government falls short of its N500 million wage bill.
Speaking ahead of the university’s maiden convocation on March 8, 2025, Adeoluwa revealed that BOUESTI has not received any capital or take-off grants in five years and relies heavily on TETFund for infrastructure. He also noted that the institution inherited over N3 billion in debt from the defunct College of Education.
Despite financial challenges, BOUESTI has recorded achievements, ranking 26th in the 2023 Times Higher Education Ranking. The convocation will see 1,109 students graduate, with 38 earning First Class. Honorary doctorate degrees will be conferred on notable figures, including Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
