FG Reverses Admiralty University VC Appointment
The Federal Government has withdrawn the appointment of Professor Lucian Chukwu as the Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University, Ibuzor, Delta State, barely five days after his selection. In a statement released on Thursday, the Federal Ministry of Education admitted an error in the initial appointment and announced Professor Christopher Ogbogbo as the rightful candidate for the position.
According to the statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, a thorough review of the selection process, coupled with ministerial intervention, led to the decision. The Ministry emphasized that Ogbogbo emerged as the most qualified candidate through a due process that was meticulously followed.
To ensure transparency, the Ministry declassified the university’s Governing Council’s 21st Extraordinary Meeting Report from February 26-27, 2025. It also reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and merit in university appointments.
The Ministry further clarified that the decision aligns with the Admiralty University of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2022 and other regulations guiding the institution. This move aims to uphold the integrity of the selection process and reinforce public trust in the government’s supervisory role over federal institutions.
