Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Reportedly Dies in UK Hospital

The family of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari announces with deep sorrow his passing today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a private medical clinic in London.

 

Buhari, aged 82, died peacefully after a period of illness. The former leader served Nigeria with distinction both as a military head of state (1983–1985) and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

 

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Garba Shehu, longtime spokesperson, said: “The family of the former president has announced the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in London. May Almighty Allah accept him into Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”

 

President Buhari’s leadership, integrity, and service to the nation will be remembered by millions across Nigeria and beyond. He leaves behind a legacy of national reform, anti-corruption efforts, and public service spanning more than four decades.

 

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, and the family requests privacy as they mourn their beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
