FUHSI is The First Nigerian University to Develop Teaching Hospital and Academic Institution Simultaneously – VC

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), Osun State, has recorded a major milestone as 330 of its students have benefitted from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akeem Lasisi, during the university’s third matriculation ceremony held yesterday.

So far, 145 male and 185 female students have received financial support through NELFUND, amounting to a total disbursement of N88,723,000, Lasisi revealed.

He urged the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity to advance their education and encouraged other students to take advantage of the scheme.

Prof. Lasisi also highlighted the competitive nature of FUHSI’s admission process, stating that over 4,000 candidates applied, but only 1,004 were admitted.

With the new intakes, the university’s student population has grown from 673 in 2023 to 2,683 in just three years.

As the saying goes, many are called, but few are chosen. Our institution maintains a rigorous selection process due to our specialized academic focus and regulated admission quota, he added.

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the matriculating students and reaffirmed the institution’s zero tolerance for indecency and harassment.

We uphold discipline and academic excellence. Any student found violating the university’s policies will face appropriate disciplinary actions, he warned.

To ensure students’ welfare, he announced the establishment of a dedicated email platform (reachout@fuhsi.edu.ng) where students can report cases of harassment or victimization.

Reflecting on FUHSI’s progress over the past three years, Prof. Lasisi underscored the university’s rapid infrastructural growth at its permanent site.

What was once a dense forest has transformed into a hub of learning and innovation, he stated.

The institution has completed key projects, including:

– Senate Building
– Library
– Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences
– ICT Centre
– School of Nursing
– Multidisciplinary Laboratory
– Pavilion
– Phase One of the College of Medicine

We have also fully equipped our laboratories and are committed to recruiting the best faculty and staff, he noted.

Prof. Lasisi proudly declared that FUHSI is the first Nigerian university to develop both its academic institution and a teaching hospital concurrently.

The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing top-tier medical and health professionals who will contribute to national and global development.

At FUHSI, we don’t just educate students; we mold future leaders where character and knowledge go hand in hand, he concluded.
