Federal University Lokoja Sets Reform Agenda in Motion with Inauguration of Five Strategic Committees

Lokoja, Kogi State — February 23, 2026

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has inaugurated five high-level technical committees as part of deliberate efforts to operationalise his Action Plan (2026–2031) and reposition the University for sustainable growth and global relevance.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the University’s Felele Campus shortly after the Vice-Chancellor assumed office on February 16, 2026, brought together principal officers, members of Senate, Deans, Directors, and representatives of the student body. The event marked a decisive step toward structured implementation of the administration’s strategic priorities.

Addressing members of the University community, Professor Ibileye underscored his administration’s commitment to accountable leadership, institutional discipline, and results-oriented governance. He noted that the committees have been carefully constituted to function as strategic drivers of policy execution, ensuring that the University’s reform blueprint translates into measurable progress.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the Action Plan 2026–2031 represents a comprehensive and time-bound framework designed to strengthen academic standards, expand research capacity, modernise infrastructure, enhance staff and student development, and deepen global partnerships. He emphasised that sustainable institutional transformation requires coordinated effort, shared responsibility, and adherence to clearly defined performance benchmarks.

The newly constituted committees are:
1. Strategic Governance, Leadership and Institutional Stability Committee
2. Academic and Learning Excellence, Staff and Student Development Committee
3. Research, Innovation and Global Partnerships Committee
4. Infrastructure, ICT, and Community Engagement/External Relations Committee
5. Staff and Student Welfare, Security and Well-Being Committee

Professor Ibileye explained that each committee will operate under clearly articulated terms of reference, with periodic reporting to relevant statutory bodies to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability. He further stated that committee members were selected based on proven competence, experience, and commitment to institutional advancement.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that effective governance must be collaborative rather than silo-driven, adding that the success of the Action Plan depends on collective ownership and active stakeholder engagement.

With the inauguration of these committees, Federal University Lokoja has formally commenced a coordinated reform process aimed at strengthening institutional stability, enhancing competitiveness, and fostering meaningful community impact.
