FUNAAB Set to Graduate Over 3,000 Students at 32nd Convocation Ceremony

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), will hold its 32nd convocation ceremony this Saturday, during which a total of 3,567 undergraduates are set to graduate, The Positive Voice gathered. Out of these, 120 students bagged First-Class honors, while 1,626 bagged Second Class Upper Division.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, disclosed that 1,624 students bagged Second Class Lower Division, 164 graduated with Third Class, and 33 completed Veterinary Medicine. He further noted that 30 Postgraduate Diplomas, 274 Master’s degrees, and 136 PhDs would also be awarded during the ceremony.

In addition, The Positive Voice reports that the university has introduced eight new academic programs, including Library and Information Science, Industrial Chemistry, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering, bringing the total number of fully accredited programs to 38 across 54 departments.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the institution’s strides in research, revealing that the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved six research proposals worth over ₦171 million for FUNAAB researchers. He also noted that several international grants, valued in dollars and euros, were secured by the university’s scholars.

Commenting on the ongoing food crisis, Prof. Kehinde emphasized the importance of Public-Private Partnerships to boost food production, citing collaborations with 30 organizations that have started yielding positive results. He also encouraged Nigerians to embrace backyard farming as a practical step to address food security challenges.

The convocation ceremony will feature a lecture by Mohammed Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund, an exhibition of farming machinery, and the unveiling of monuments named after two former Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Olusola Oyewole and Prof. Kolawole Salako.

Furthermore, The Positive Voice gathered that the university has received over ₦133 million from the National Education Loans Fund for the first batch of 1,300 students who applied for the student loan, while another batch of 1,638 students awaits disbursement for 2025.
