FUOYE Council Clears the Air on Allegations Between Engr. Folasade Adebayo and Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has dismissed the sexual harassment allegations made against Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi S. Fasina, by former senior staff member, Engr. Folasade Adebayo. Instead, the Council condemned Adebayo’s act of recording the Vice-Chancellor without his consent and ordered her to apologize for allegedly defaming the university’s reputation.
Following a thorough review of multiple investigations, including one conducted by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Council concluded that no formal complaint of sexual harassment had been filed by Adebayo. The council’s statement, which was issued after an extraordinary meeting on April 8, 2025, indicated that the accusations against Professor Fasina lacked merit.
The Council’s investigation focused on audio recordings made by Adebayo, in which she and the Vice-Chancellor discussed various issues. The recordings were deemed to be an attempt at blackmail, with Adebayo allegedly using them to influence the university’s decision on her appointment as Director of Works—a position Professor Fasina did not have the authority to approve.
The investigation also revealed that Adebayo had never formally raised a complaint about sexual harassment, which was consistent with her earlier statement to the police. The Council noted that, in light of these findings, the allegations were not substantiated.
The statement further emphasized that recording individuals without their consent is inappropriate and incompatible with the values of the academic community. The Council has called for stronger policies to address such issues, including cyberbullying and the use of social media.
In addition to reprimanding Adebayo for her actions, the Council directed that she submit a written apology to the University within seven days. Furthermore, the Council issued a formal warning to FUOYE’s management for providing Adebayo with preferential treatment, including the backdating of her promotion.
The Council also recommended that the Vice-Chancellor exercise greater caution in his interactions with staff. It was decided that the University would establish a Peace and Reconciliation Committee to address ongoing issues within the institution.
