In a strategic effort to strengthen their collaboration, the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) and the Federal Medical Centre Bida (FMCB) have formalized an agreement to establish a College of Health Sciences.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday at the FMCB premises in Bida, Niger State, marking a new milestone in the institutions’ partnership.

At the ceremony, FUTMINNA’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, expressed optimism about the partnership, describing it as the beginning of a transformative phase. He stated that the university plans to commence academic activities for the new college in the upcoming session, ensuring that the curriculum meets established academic and professional benchmarks.

Professor Kuta further expressed confidence in the joint efforts of both institutions to achieve the goals outlined in the agreement.

The Medical Director of FMC Bida, Dr. Abubakar Usman, emphasized the centre’s commitment to service delivery and capacity building. He highlighted the urgent need for increased training of health professionals, especially in light of the ongoing migration of medical workers from the country.

Dr. Usman hailed the MoU signing as a landmark achievement that solidifies the cooperation between FMCB and FUTMINNA, setting a firm foundation for continued collaboration.

Members of the FMCB delegation praised the leadership of both organisations for their dedication to swiftly implementing the programme. They noted that ongoing training and professional development are vital to healthcare delivery, and the new college will serve as a key platform for advancing these objectives.

The partnership is also expected to boost research opportunities and enhance the profile of both institutions within the health education sector.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Fausat Fadeke Danmallam, Head of Planning, Research, and Statistics at FMCB, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his team for their commitment and prayed for the success and growth of the partnership.
