The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has elected a new executive committee to lead the union for the next four years. The election, which took place during the union’s 5th Quadrennial Congress, was held at the university’s Multipurpose Hall and was supervised by the union’s electoral committee, chaired by Engr David Okeke. The process was observed by representatives of the National and South-East Zonal Committee, security personnel, the media, and members of the university’s SSANU congress.
Comrade Chukwudi Antonia Chineyenwa emerged as the newly elected Chairman and will be working with other executives, including Comrade Ofuebe Obierika Amuchluchenna as Vice Chairman, Comrade Anyali Tevin as Secretary, Ohis Victor Sunday as Assistant Secretary, Comrade Akujobi Tochukwu Prince as Treasurer, Comrade Nzewi Chinedu as Public Relations Officer, Comrade Nwafor Onyebuchi as Ex-Officio, Comrade Edith Ogoma as Financial Secretary, Comrade Modesta Onyenyechi as Women’s Coordinator, and Comrade Aniakor Kingsley Nnamdi as Trustee.
Following the election, the National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, inaugurated the new leadership and commended the electoral committee for conducting a credible, free, and fair process. He encouraged the newly elected officials to live up to expectations by prioritizing the welfare of union members.
In her acceptance speech, Comrade Chukwudi Antonia Chineyenwa dedicated her victory to God and assured members of the union that she would focus on their well-being. She appreciated the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu, for ensuring a smooth and peaceful election process. Engr David Okeke, who chaired the election committee, described the process as peaceful and transparent.
Also speaking at the event, the National Vice President of SSANU for the South-East Zone, Comrade Engr Okey Animba, congratulated the newly elected officials and urged them to lead with integrity and fairness.
