Kogi varsity VC urges Nigerians to leverage on AI

Vice Chancellor of the Kogi State University, Prof. KehindeEniola has urged Nigerians to leverage on the use of Artificial Intelligence to make their work more effective.

Pro. Eniola, who was the guest lecturer at the public lecture of the Wellspring University on Tuesday said there was no need to be afraid of the emergence of AI, noting that robots do not have the capacity to take over people’s jobs.

Speaking on the topic, “Educating for Global Impact, Leveraging AI in 4IR-driven Global Citizenship Education, the Don said that AI can help promote global awareness, foster empathy and cross cultural understanding, and support personalized learning among other benefits.

While emphasising the need not to be afraid of the emergence of AI, he said that AI lacks capacity for innovative responses to novel situations, lacks capacity for critical thinking, lacks capacity for critical thinking, lacks capacity for critical thinking and cannot generate new knowledge on its own.

He noted that human centricity is one of the major features of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), noting that it also encourages collaboration and combining expertise from various fields.

Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Prof. Isaac Ajayi said Artificial Intelligence rapidly transforms the world, it also opens up new avenues in education, breaking down barriers, enhancing accessibility, and enabling more personalized and scalable learning experiences.

He also said that beyond the tools and technologies, AI also challenges everyone to think ethically, globally, and humanely about the future we are building.

He added, “Today’s lecture is an opportunity for all of us, educators, researchers, students, and members of the wider community, to engage with these important issues that have been raised. It is a time to reflect, to learn, and to be inspired.

“Public lectures hold a special place in the life of a university. They serve as open platforms where ideas can be shared, challenged, and refined, not only within the academic community but also with the broader society we serve.

“These lectures encourage dialogue across disciplines, generations, and geographies, reinforcing the university’s role as a beacon of knowledge, inquiry, and progress.”
