NCC, UDUS Commission New ICT Park to Advance Digital Technology in Sokoto

In a notable stride toward boosting digital innovation, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated a cutting-edge ICT Park at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), marking a key milestone in Nigeria’s digital economy development.
The commissioning ceremony took place within the university’s dedicated ICT zone and was led by the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Dr. Aminu Maida. He described the new facility as a critical hub for fostering innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, highlighting its role in nurturing local talent and advancing technology adoption.
The newly established ICT Park is among six flagship projects rolled out nationwide by the NCC to enhance Nigeria’s digital infrastructure. Designed with modern features including a large-capacity auditorium, multiple tech hubs, and dedicated workspaces, the facility is tailored to support emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things.
Dr. Maida emphasized the importance of collective stewardship from students, faculty, government officials, and the local community to sustain the facility’s impact and ensure it becomes a lasting resource for technological advancement.
Representing UDUS leadership, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Muhammad Garba Mahuta, praised the partnership with the NCC as transformative for the university’s academic and research ambitions. He noted that the ICT Park would drive multidisciplinary innovation and serve as a catalyst for digital entrepreneurship within the region.
Professor Mahuta also announced plans to implement sustainability measures and strategic programs aimed at maximizing the benefits of the ICT Park for students and researchers alike.
The event drew attendees from various sectors, including government representatives, university officials, and community leaders, underscoring the significance of the project in promoting Nigeria’s vision of a knowledge-driven, technology-powered future.
