Ekiti Nursing Students Protest Fee Hike, NANS Calls for Urgent Reversal

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ekiti State Chapter, has called for the immediate reversal of the recently announced tuition fee hike at the College of Nursing, Ado Ekiti.

In a statement released on Friday, the NANS Chairman, Samuel Asaolu, criticized the institution’s management for what he described as “insensitivity to the plight of students and their parents.” He emphasized that the fee increment, coming just a semester after a prior increase, amounts to exploitation of students.

THE STATEMENT READS: “The sudden and outrageous increment in tuition fees at the College of Nursing, Ado Ekiti, is a clear indication of the management’s lack of regard for the welfare of students and their families. This unjustifiable hike comes on the heels of a previous increment last semester, making education increasingly unaffordable.”

NANS further urged all students to withhold payment of the new fees pending resolution of the matter. The association also called on the Ekiti State Government to intervene promptly to protect the interests of students. “We demand immediate action from the state government to address this issue. It is unacceptable that education—a fundamental right—has become a burden due to exploitative policies,” Asaolu stated.

The student body reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for accessible and affordable education while warning the management against any attempt to suppress their demands.

NANS concluded by vowing to continue its fight for students’ rights until the tuition fee hike is reversed.
