NUT Applauds Governor Makinde for Transforming Oyo’s Education Sector

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State, has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration for recruiting 19,500 teachers within five years. In a statement signed by NUT Chairman Oladimeji Raji and Secretary Salami Olukayode, the union highlighted that the governor appointed 5,000 teachers during his first term and 14,500 more since the start of his second term to serve in the state’s primary and secondary schools.

The union commended the recruitment as a major step toward addressing inadequate manpower in the education sector and enhancing teaching and learning. The statement read:

“Your Excellency, your dedication to transforming the education system of Oyo State is unparalleled. The recruitment of over 14,000 qualified teaching professionals, 3,500 non-teaching personnel, and a notable number of caregivers reflects your commitment to providing free, qualitative, and quantitative education for the citizens of Oyo State. This significant achievement will undoubtedly enhance classroom experiences and improve educational service delivery for our children.”

The union also praised the merit-based recruitment process, describing it as a milestone despite global economic challenges. “This accomplishment not only restores Oyo State’s position of honor among states but also serves as a benchmark for successive administrations,” the union added.

In anticipation of the verification exercise for 5,600 newly recruited primary school teachers scheduled for next week, the NUT urged the selected candidates to conduct themselves professionally to ensure a smooth process.

The statement concluded by affirming the union’s unwavering support for Governor Makinde’s administration and the teachers’ dedication to their responsibilities.
