Ododo Ushers in New Era for PAAU with Restoration of Medical Degree Programme
Governor Ododo Facilitates the Reinstatement of MBBS Program at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
The administration of Governor Ododo has consistently prioritized the development and reform of the healthcare sector.
The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme received accreditation and began at what was then known as Kogi State University, Anyigba, many years ago.
However, after a resource verification assessment, accreditation was withdrawn as a result of insufficient infrastructure and critical resources necessary for the effective training of medical students.
The administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello, upon taking office, promptly intervened by granting full scholarships and arranging immediate transfers for the stranded third-year students who were unable to progress to the clinical phase due to the withdrawal of accreditation.
As of today, over 90% of the affected students have successfully graduated from various institutions.
Additionally, Alh. Yahaya Bello authorized the construction of a clinical complex, now fully completed and operational.
Prof. M. Tenuche, the Vice Chancellor, was promptly mandated to initiate all basic science and allied health programmes previously absent from the university that are essential prerequisites for the MBBS curriculum. These programs are now ongoing at the university.
With the availability of the clinical complex and already ongoing basic sciences and allied health programs, the coming of Gov. Ododo identified the remaining gaps hindering the re-commencement of the MBBS program and directed a quick assessment of the needs. These needs were provision of;
1. Multi-purpose medical students teaching laboratory
2. Lecture halls
3. Library
4. Consultants offices
5. Medical students hostels.
The identified needs received immediate approval from the Chief Servant. I had the honour of representing His Excellency during the official handover of project sites to various contractors.
As construction moved forward successfully, the university management deemed it necessary to re-invite the National Universities Commission for evaluation toward restoring accreditation.
Accreditation has been granted for the commencement of the following full-time courses at PAAU, effective 2025/2026, with the endorsement of the Executive Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Owing to the dedication and proactive leadership of Prof. Marietu Tenuche, Vice Chancellor of PAAU, the following programmes have been successfully accredited:
1.Bsc Applied Geophysics
2.BSC Industrial Physics
3. BSC Information And Communication Technology
4. BSC Cyber Security
