Ondo NYSC Coordinator Clears Air on Alleged Preferential Treatment
The NYSC Coordinator for Ondo State, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, has recently responded to allegations suggesting that corps members deployed to the state were receiving preferential treatment over their colleagues relocated from Lagos.
In her statement, Bakare dismissed the claims, emphasizing her commitment to all 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members currently undergoing their orientation at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko. She reassured the public that her administration strives to offer equal attention to every corps member, regardless of their place of origin or deployment.
She explained that the delays in the registration process were caused by unavoidable technical difficulties. Bakare attributed the issues to a server congestion problem, as multiple states including Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun were conducting their registrations simultaneously. She clarified that the Lagos Secretariat’s role in generating code numbers contributed to the slowed process, noting that such disruptions were beyond the camp’s control.
Despite these challenges, Bakare emphasized that all corps members were immediately provided with accommodation upon arrival, reinforcing that the NYSC’s core values of fairness and unity remained intact. She urged corps members, particularly those who were relocated from Lagos, to avoid spreading misinformation to their families about their treatment at the camp.
“I understand the frustrations, but I ask that you trust the process. We are doing everything within our power to ensure your well-being. Our focus is on providing a conducive environment for all,” she said, appealing for calm.
Bakare also expressed concern over the negative portrayal of the NYSC camp on social media by some corps members, urging them to channel their energy towards more constructive discussions. She reminded them that the NYSC remains transparent and is dedicated to improving their overall experience.
In a separate development, Bakare officially inaugurated the lecture series for the orientation course, encouraging corps members to seize the opportunity for personal and professional development. Additionally, she launched the Camp Court Committee, underscoring the importance of integrity and fairness in the committee’s work.
She concluded by introducing the three newly appointed Corps Camp Directors, who were advised to work closely with both camp management and the corps members, fostering an atmosphere of cooperation and respect.
