OOU to Issue Certificates and Transcripts to Graduands at 34th Convocation
Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, graduating students will leave this year’s 34th convocation ceremony with not just their degree certificates but also their academic transcripts, marking a significant shift in the institution’s processes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, shared this development during a press briefing on Thursday ahead of the event scheduled to conclude on Friday, January 31, 2025. He stated that the university had finalized all arrangements to ensure that the documents, along with commemorative plaques, are ready for distribution at the ceremony.
A total of 6,209 undergraduate students, including 5,793 regular and 416 part-time students, will graduate this session. Additionally, 741 postgraduate students will be awarded diplomas and degrees, comprising 571 PGD/Master’s recipients and 170 PhDs.
The university recorded 115 First Class graduates, reflecting a 16% increase compared to the previous session. Other graduating students fall under Second Class Upper (1,845), Second Class Lower (3,044), Third Class (688), and Pass grades (35). The medical programme produced 66 unclassified graduates.
As part of the convocation highlights, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arch Sunny Echono, will deliver the lecture titled “TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, The Treasures, and The Future”
Professor Agboola also mentioned the university’s recent accolades, including being named the “AI School of the Year” at the 2024 Data Science Nigeria Bootcamp, winning a $1,000 book prize, and two lecturers receiving a $60,000 Google Academic Research grant.
The best-graduating student, Aisha Aanuoluwapo Dauda from the Department of Economics, bagged a CGPA of 4.87, earning recognition as a standout among her peers.
