SOKOTO STATE unveils ₦200,000 monthly allowance for school principals
Sokoto State Government, led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has approved a monthly maintenance allowance of ₦200,000 for secondary school principals across the state
Sokoto State Government, led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has approved a monthly maintenance allowance of ₦200,000 for secondary school principals across the state. This decision, aimed at addressing facility maintenance challenges, was announced during the Sokoto State 2025 Citizens Budget Discussion held on Monday.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, confirmed that the allowance would be disbursed to principals in the state’s 23 local government areas starting January 2025. He highlighted that the funds are intended for minor repairs requiring the expertise of carpenters, masons, and other artisans, ensuring the proper upkeep of school facilities.
The initiative was influenced by an appeal from former Deputy Governor Chiso Abdullahi, who underscored the urgent need for financial support to address maintenance issues in schools.
In a related development, Governor Aliyu has directed the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Dadi Adare, to review the allowances of traditional rulers to align with current economic realities. This directive follows a request made by the District Head of Kilgori, Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, on behalf of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar. Kilgori stressed the need for an increment in traditional rulers’ allowances to reflect the prevailing economic conditions.
These measures reflect Governor Aliyu’s commitment to improving education infrastructure and ensuring fair remuneration for traditional institutions in the state.
