Tinubu Returns to Abuja After 12-Day Official Visits to Japan, Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after concluding a 12-day foreign mission that took him to Japan and Brazil.

The President arrived in the nation’s capital on Thursday, August 28, 2025, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. He was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by senior government officials, including the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, among others.

While in Japan, President Tinubu attended the opening ceremony and plenary of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) on August 20. He also held a series of bilateral meetings and concluded his visit with an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Yokohama.

After the TICAD9 summit, the President departed Yokohama, with a brief stopover in Los Angeles, before heading to Brasília, Brazil.

In Brazil, President Tinubu met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and senior Brazilian officials. Both leaders held private discussions and witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture—key areas identified in Nigeria’s development agenda.

The Presidency described the trip as “strategic and productive,” stressing that the outcomes will strengthen Nigeria’s partnerships and drive sustainable growth across vital sectors.
