UAD demands Sanwo-Olu’s suspension of LASUSTECH VC to halt collapse

A storm is brewing at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), and the United Action for Democracy (UAD) is sounding the alarm, demanding urgent action from Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The powerful pro-democracy coalition is calling for the immediate suspension of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, warning that the university is on the brink of collapse under the weight of shocking corruption allegations that could irreparably damage the reputation of the state and his administration.
In a scorching petition signed by Organising Secretary Kazeem Oloyede, UAD blasted Odusanya for what they described as “brazen corruption” that threatens to tear the institution apart.
According to the petition, the Vice-Chancellor allegedly bypassed procurement laws, awarding contracts without due process, inflating prices, and personally selecting companies linked to his own financial interests, all in what appears to be a desperate attempt to siphon public funds.
If left unchecked, UAD warns, this alleged scandal could ignite full-scale protests from staff and students, plunging LASUSTECH into chaos.
“The rot inside LASUSTECH is not just a minor issue—it’s a ticking time bomb,” Oloyede declared. “If action isn’t taken now, we risk a disaster that will haunt not only the university but also Lagos State and the entire Nigerian education system.”

UAD’s demands are clear and urgent: Professor Odusanya must be suspended immediately to prevent further damage and allow for a full investigation and that an interim leadership should be installed to restore order, and a forensic audit into the mismanagement of accreditation funds is a non-negotiable necessity.
They also called for the swift prosecution of anyone implicated in this scandal to set a strong precedent against future corruption in Nigerian universities.
“The world is watching,” Oloyede warned. “If Governor Sanwo-Olu fails to act decisively, it won’t just be LASUSTECH’s reputation on the line—his own administration will be dragged down in the mud with it.”
UAD also revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Lagos State Police Command had already received reports about the alleged wrongdoing, with investigations said to be in progress.
But Oloyede stressed that without the immediate suspension of Odusanya, these investigations could be sabotaged, and the university’s financial hemorrhaging could continue unchecked.
