UI Matriculates Over 4,000 Students for the 2024/2025 Academic Session

The University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria’s premier university, has officially welcomed 4,649 newly admitted students into various academic programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The matriculation ceremony, which took place at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan, drew the presence of university management, academic staff, parents, and well-wishers who came to celebrate the students’ formal entry into the institution.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, revealed that a total of 11,912 candidates participated in the post-UTME screening exercise after meeting the minimum 200 UTME score requirement. Of this figure, 7,017 candidates scored 50 per cent and above, with 4,411 admitted through the UTME route and 238 through Direct Entry.
Prof. Adebowale congratulated the matriculating students and charged them to uphold the values that have made UI a leading institution in Nigeria and beyond. He emphasized the need for discipline, integrity, academic excellence, and resilience. According to him, the university is not only a place for intellectual growth but also a space for shaping character and instilling values that last a lifetime.
Adding his voice to the moment, Mr. Olukayode Aiyenuyo, an alumnus of the university and a respected industry expert, encouraged the students to be deliberate about their personal and academic development. He highlighted the difference between “doing” and “being,” noting that while “doing” relates to tasks and accomplishments, “being” focuses on one’s identity and purpose.
“Who you choose to be is far more important than what you want to do,” Aiyenuyo stated. He urged the students to embrace diversity, pursue knowledge with intention, and remain focused on their goals. He also reminded them that success doesn’t come easily and that frustration is part of the journey to good grades and lasting achievements.
