UNILAG Senate Elects New Deputy Vice-Chancellor

The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has elected Professor Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services).
Prof. Lesi, from the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine (CMUL), emerged victorious in an electronic voting process, securing 86% of the votes during the Statutory Senate Meeting held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
A former Provost of the College of Medicine (CMUL), Prof. Lesi currently serves as the Board Chairperson of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
An alumnus of UNILAG’s College of Medicine, he obtained his MBBS degree in 1984 and completed his postgraduate training at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), earning his FWACP (Paediatrics) in 1994. He further obtained a Master’s degree with Distinction from the University College London in 1997.
Beyond academia, Prof. Lesi has extensive administrative experience, serving as a consultant to various national and international agencies. His contributions span multiple conferences, workshops, and training programs across Europe, North America, and Africa. Over the years, he has mentored numerous professionals who now hold notable leadership positions in the academic and medical fields.
His appointment, pending ratification by the
University Governing Council, is set for a two-year tenure, effective
Saturday, March 29, 2025.
