UNILORIN CAMPUS SHUTTLE RETURNS AFTER MONTHS OF INACTIVITY

The University of Ilorin campus shuttle service has resumed after a prolonged suspension, easing transportation stress for students and staff who had resorted to expensive alternatives.
Launched in January 2025 under the Smart Campus Initiative led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), the shuttle service was introduced to improve campus mobility and reduce costs. Initially, it operated with a cashless system using the Accessivo app.
Following its return, the service now accepts cash payments only, with a fare of ₦150 from PS Park to New School Gate Park. According to a driver, only 12 buses are currently operational, while others are still under repair. Buses now run into the night to support movement during late hours.
The service had previously halted due to frequent breakdowns. During the suspension, students paid up to ₦400 for commercial transport or relied on Marcopolo buses, which cost ₦100 but operated for limited hours.
Concerns have arisen among students who pre-booked tickets via Accessivo prior to the suspension. Many have not received updates on whether their tickets remain valid. AbdulHakeem, a 200-level student, shared: “I bought tickets last semester before the buses stopped. Now that they’re back, I don’t know if I can still use them.”
Beyond transportation, the shuttle’s return reflects the university’s broader effort to rebuild trust and improve student welfare. As exams approach, stable and affordable transport remains essential.
