UNILORIN VC Addresses Alumni Crisis

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the excessive media coverage given to the factional president of the university’s alumni association, Dr. Wale Fasakin, whose tenure ended in March 2024.

Speaking during the unveiling of the institution’s 50th-anniversary logo, Professor Egbewole clarified that efforts have been made, including his personal intervention, to resolve the crisis within the alumni association.

According to the Vice Chancellor, “Dr. Fasakin’s tenure, which began in 2020, expired in March 2024. It is unfortunate that he continues to parade himself as the president. The University of Ilorin Alumni Association is a reputable body, and it does not condone such behavior. We remain committed to fostering unity and maintaining the association’s integrity.”

As the university marks its golden jubilee, Professor Egbewole emphasized the institution’s ambition to enhance its global standing through a robust 2024–2028 strategic plan. He stated, “This is a significant year for us. Our plans include advancing research, improving infrastructure, and strengthening our ties with the community. Projects like the innovation hub are already underway to promote student initiatives.”

He also highlighted the university’s focus on producing graduates who are equipped to be job creators rather than job seekers. As part of the institution’s community engagement, the Vice Chancellor announced plans to work closely with surrounding communities to identify and address their challenges.

The Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Ceremonial Committee, Professor Olugbenga Mokuolu, shed light on the significance of the anniversary logo, describing it as a reflection of the university’s vision and aspirations for the future.
