UNIZIK Appoints New Provost for College of Postgraduate Studies

Prof. Emmanuel Chukwudebere Obidimma has been elected as the new Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. His victory was confirmed during the University’s 230th Senate meeting, held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the University Auditorium.
The election saw Prof. Obidimma, a lecturer in the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, secure 164 votes to defeat Prof. Stanley Chidi Udedi of the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biosciences, who polled 146 votes.
Prof. Onyenmechi Johnson Afonne of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, finished third with 83 votes, while Prof. Felix Afamefuna Onyegbule of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, received 8 votes.
Before his election, Prof. Obidimma served as the Deputy Provost (Humanities) of the College of Postgraduate Studies. He is set to take over from Engr. Prof. Philomena Igbokwe, whose tenure concludes on March 30, 2025.
