UNN Celebrates 53rd Convocation, Honours 11,143 Graduates
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) marked its 53rd convocation ceremony in grand style over the weekend, with 11,143 students graduating across various disciplines. The event attracted prominent personalities, including Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and the institution’s Governing Council Chairman, General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd).
GRADUATION STATISTICS:
The ceremony celebrated the academic milestones of graduates, categorized as follows:
– 195 First-Class Honours
– 4,165 Second-Class Upper
– 5,297 Second-Class Lower
– 659 Third-Class
– 22 Pass
– 889Unclassified
– 16 Diplomas
At the postgraduate level, 1,356 degrees were awarded, including 431 Doctorate Degrees, 848 Master’s Degrees, and
77 Diplomas.
IWORISO-MARKSON’S INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEY:
Among the graduates was Daniel Iworiso-Markson, former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, who earned his doctorate after a 21-year delay. Iworiso-Markson recalled his decision in 2003 to put his academic aspirations on hold while focusing on career development, despite encouragement from his mentor, the late Professor Ike Nwosu.
Reflecting on his accomplishment, Iworiso-Markson said: “The journey to this point has been long and challenging, but it is also a moment of fulfillment. I am deeply grateful to everyone who inspired and supported me along the way.”
He described his academic pursuit as transformative, emphasizing how it shaped his character and critical thinking skills.
